Stewards Briefing Sheet for Rowner Carnival 2007.
Dear Steward.
It is really important that you read this briefing sheet thoroughly because it contains all the information you need for today’s event.
Today you are working as a steward. This doesn’t mean that you are a bouncer!
We want everyone to have a good day, and enjoy the carnival atmosphere, and you are very important in making this happen.
People will want to know where the Toilets or First-Aid-Post is, etc.
Nimrod-Community-Centre will be the base for Event-Site-Office, Lost-Child and First- Aid-Post, First-Aiders are also along the route. The Toilets are at Siskins Junior School.
PC Gary Boud and Police are helping us along the route.
Walky-Talkies will be handed out.
In the event of finding a lost child: You should not approach the child alone. Keep the child in your view. With another steward ask child if he/she is lost. Inform HQ that you have found a child, give details of the two stewards that are dealing, where you found the child, gender of child, and approximate age of child. Then wait for response. Do not deal with any children on your own. If a fellow a steward is not available then ask an appropriate adult to stay with you and the child until HQ gives you a response. Do not let the child go off with anyone until you are very sure that they are an appropriate person, if you have any doubts then contact HQ and we will get the police to deal with the situation.
Please note! The Child's Safety is of Paramount Importance.
In the event of a lost child, a message will come across the walky-talkies that a child is lost, a description of what the child is wearing and the child’s gender and age will be given. This is then to be circulated to all stewards and the public. Do not say the child's name. If the child is not found in ten minutes the police will then take over.
In the case of an emergency or evacuation, follow the Emergency-Evacuation-Procedure.
The Evacuation-Procedure will be the same for either the Siskin School or the Nimrod Community-Centre, depending on the site of the emergency.
If the Emergency-Evacuation-Plan is put into effect the Event-Coordinator shall stop the music on stage. An announcement will be made from the stage, asking the Participants, Public and any Stallholders to leave the site in an orderly fashion to the appropriate Evacuation-Area.
Event-Stewards shall direct the Participants, Public and Stallholders to the nearest Evacuation-Area. It is essential that they be kept away from the area of immediate danger. Participants, members of the Public and any Stallholders will be asked to stay in the Evacuation-Area until it is announced that it is safe for them to leave.
Refreshments for Stewards: You will be given a Food-Token. Drinks will be supplied before and after the procession or from the Tea Room (in the Siskin-Community-Room)
