BBC Reports a Celebrity Visit to Rowner

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Just over 5 years ago, something wonderful happened.
Thanks to the forward vision of Jacky Charman and Jan St Ledger,
the Rowner Access Point was born.
I moved onto this estate 3 months prior to it's opening
from a very intimidating area of Luton, and my first reaction
was "Here we go again". However, thanks to a lot of hard work
from Jacky, Jan and all the voluntary workers, the Access Point
has been transformed from an empty shell into what it is today.
And the atmosphere around the estate reflects the impact that it has made.
The Jobcentre sends details of current vacancies,
and of course the Citizens Advice Bureau are on hand every Wednesday morning
to offer help and advice. People are also encouraged to call in
for general advice or even just a chat and coffee.
There are occasional one day courses available,
and a number of computers available for use.
I believe the transformation of peoples perception of the estate is due
to the annual Carnival, Christmas in the Square, and other events
held during the year. People no longer seem to be intimidated living here,
and are even proud to be a part of the Community.
So, thank you to the Rowner Access Point, and all those involved with it
and long may you prosper.
